Critical Illness Insurance
Critical Illness Insurance can help you cope with life’s unexpected events when you or someone in your family is diagnosed with a critical illness or suffers from a sudden medical event such as a heart attack or stroke. Although it may not be fun to think about having to cope with critical illnesses, taking precautions in advance can mean so much to you and your family if something does happen. Without critical illness insurance, the onset of critical illnesses can be a devastating blow that can leave your family to face financial hardship.
How Does Critical Illness Insurance Work?
When you opt to purchase Critical Illness Insurance from BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina through The Mosaic Group, you select a policy for $10,000, $20,000, or $30,000. For as little as $0.15 a day in premiums, you purchase the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you-and your family- will be taken care of if any major medical events occur. In the event that a medical event does occur, the insurance company will send you a lump sum payment that can help you cover medical costs and other expenses.
What Medical Events Qualify?
Medical events such as heart attacks and strokes that can render you incapacitated for a time qualify as events that are covered under Critical Illness Insurance. The diagnosis of terminal illnesses such as cancer or congestive heart failure also count as qualifying medical events for which Critical Illness Insurance can be used. Additionally, the ordering of certain medical procedures such as organ transplants and coronary heart surgery qualify you to receive the lump sum payment from your Critical Illness Insurance.
Certain routine tests and wellness exams may also qualify you to receive a small portion of the insurance. Up to $75 may be given for EKGs, blood tests, pap smears, and other types of preventative tests.
Who Should Purchase Critical Illness Insurance?
Critical Illness Insurance can help anyone, as everyone is susceptible to critical illnesses. However, individuals that are at higher risk for covered medical events may take comfort in knowing that they will be covered if illness should strike. Critical Illness Insurance may also help provide peace of mind for families that rely heavily on a sole provider.
Using Critical Illness Insurance
Critical Illness Insurance generally provides moneys to assist with the costs of medical care so that patients do not have to pay out of pocket for hospital stays, surgeries, and other types of costly treatments. Critical Illness Insurance can help to fill in coverage gaps from health insurance plans or can act as a stand-alone safety net. Policy holders may also use moneys to help with household bills and needs while recovering, assisting with lost wages.
